Build understanding through evidence

To really understand how students are developing, we collect as much evidence as possible. Every piece of student writing - from formal assessments to practice drafts - helps us understand their learning better.

Teacher Uploads

Teachers can upload any student work - assessments, practice pieces, drafts that would otherwise be thrown away.

PDF Splitting

Automatically split handwritten PDFs into individual student submissions for efficient processing and assessment.

Student Direct Upload

Students can upload their own work directly for immediate feedback, building independence and engagement.

2

Make evidence meaningful with rubrics

Once you're collecting evidence, you need a simple, consistent way to judge it. Create rubrics that match what you teach and how you assess.

These rubrics turn all that evidence into clear judgments and next steps for students.

The Cage – Response 1 (Extended)

I walked into the old shed and saw it there. The cage.It was rusty, with the paint peeling off, and something inside moved. My heart thumped like a drum in my chest. I tiptoed closer, the floorboards creaking under my feet. A faint squeak came from inside, and I froze. What if it was a rat, or worse, a snake? But when I bent down, I saw two small eyes staring back at me. It wasn't a monster after all—it wasa tiny bird with feathers the colour of sunlight.

Its wings fluttered weakly against the bars, as if it had been waiting for someone to notice. I reached out carefully and pulled open the rusty door. The bird hesitated for a moment, then hopped out, landing softly on my shoulder. It chirped a song so sweet it filled the whole shed with light. In that moment, I knew the cage had never been meant to hold the bird forever; it had been waiting for me to set it free. And as I stepped outside, the bird soared into the sky, circling above me, before disappearing into the golden horizon.

Creative Writing - The Hockey Stick

I walked into the old shed and saw it there. The cage.
It was rusty, with the paint peeling off, and something inside moved.
My heart thumped like a drum in my chest. I tiptoed closer,
the floorboards creaking under my feet. A faint squeak came
from inside, and I froze. What if it was a rat, or worse,
a snake? But when I bent down, I saw two small eyes staring
back at me. It wasn't a monster after all—it was a tiny bird
with feathers the colour of sunlight.
Its wings fluttered weakly against the bars, as if it had
been waiting for someone to notice. I reached out carefully
and pulled open the rusty door. The bird hesitated for a

It chirped a song so sweet it filled the whole shed with light.
In that moment, I knew the cage had never been meant to hold
the bird forever; it had been waiting for me to set it free.
And as I stepped outside, the bird soared into the sky,
circling above me, before disappearing into the golden horizon.
